Top 12 Christmas song covers(by Fusionater and Positive Troll)

Hey everybody! It's Christmas time and what better way to celebrate this festive season than sitting on our asses and listening to Youtube videos...I'm not really selling this well...Well, In spirit of the season I am going to to a top 12. Yes top 12. top 9's aren't as good for Christmas. What is my top 12 you may ask, well it is none other than music time. But why be tacky when we can take a look at Music that was stolen from the original artist? OK maybe that's a bit of a stretch to raise interest in this blog, but uh...I'll just cut to the chase...This is the Top 12 Christmas song covers!

Top 12..top 12...hm...seems Ive hit a bit of a snag...I really don't know enough about music to fit a top 12...hm but I think I know someone who does*Does evil smile with twirling fingers* Hikes over to the next blog. *knocks on the door* "VICENTEL!!! Let me in!!! I need to shamelessly promote myself by doing a collaboration with you!" hm...doesn't seem to be home...All right who else do i know...*Walks over to the next blog*"MOVIEFAN12!!! Know any good Disney Christmas melodies?!" *thinks*...oh crap he's on vacation... OK...I got two more... "EPICJASON1999!!! You know a lot about...well...everything!!! HELP ME!!! sigh..must be out. Well that leaves one last option, but Ive collaborated with him before...I hope he'll have me... *Walks over to the blog, Knocks on door*sigh bet he's not home...

*Positive Troll goes to the door and opens it up.(done in a neutral color)*

PT: fusionater! Happy Holidays, my friend. What brings you to my blog today?

FT: The sound of Music my friend. You see Ive gotten myself into a bit of a fix, Ive promised my readers a top 12 Christmas song covers, without much forethought mind you, and now I'm stuck with only 6 choices and no superbly musical brain to fill the rest of the list. Now I need someone with your natural talent to help me spread this Holiday cheer. So, what do you say, Positive, will you help me out this year?

PT: To quote M. Bison....OF COURSE! I'd love to help you out, my friend. Why don't we start with your top 6 and then I'll give you mine-that work?

FT: Because I'm low on jokes at the moment, OF COURSE!!! Now all we need to do is work on an intro...on second thought,  let's just get started. Like, you said, I'll go first.

6. jingle bells: Batman smells-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Veju4PxhuGc
Mark Hamill

FT: Now I know what your thinking, isn't this more of a parody than an actual song? Well, yes, but in contrast, when I was growing up, THIS was the song I heard! No it doesn't go Jingle Bells Jingle Bells, where did you learn your Carols! lol. Yes it seems nostalgia wins out here.

PT: YEP! That’s the Joker alright! Nice pick, my friend.

5. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow- http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=-10fWHdpmks
Michael Buble

FT: I know he isn't the best singer, but I really liked his take on this song, just bringing a more happy feeling to it than Frank Sinatra did.

PT: Yes, his version is a little happier, but the band sounds too cluttered. I prefer the arrangements of Nelson Riddle, myself.

4.Its the most wonderful time of the year- http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=5pI-gtDY5jA
Johny Mathis

FT: There's no doubt about it, this is a GREAT song, I personally like this version more than the original, well done Mathis!

PT: I completely agree, Johnny Mathis has the voice of an angel. I wish I could sing that well. Nice pick :)

3. Santa Claus is coming to town- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSNeTBX8-io
Love handel(Jaret Reddick)

FT: Now which of you didn't foresee at least ONE song from Phineas and Ferb making my list? Hand raisers, please leave. WAIT!!! I WAS JOKING!!! COME BACK!!!!! Yes I have stated in the past that this is my favorite version of the song, I just love this take on it so much. I heavily considered Phineas and Ferbs version of Twelve days of Christmas, but that seemed like even more of a parody than Batman smells.
PT: The 80s Pop fan in me is smiling from ear to ear. Love Handel RULES!

2. We wish you a merry Christmas- http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=NHBFpxRj4pE

Disney version

FT: This one just succeeds in making me so happy, than again, Mickey and the gang tend to have that effect on people.

PT: Yeah, they really do, my friend. GO MICKEY AND THE GANG!

1. Here comes Santa Claus-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsempfQpGos
Bing Cosby and the Andrews sisters

FT: Sadly, for a number 1, I have very little explanation for this one, like Merry Christmas, this one just makes me so happy, but no Mickey here to excuse that...

PT: Sadly? Hardly! Bing Crosby is synonymous with Christmas and has recorded many of her standards by which other singers are rated against. This is even better with the inclusion of the Andrews Sisters-Marvelous version of this classic. Now for my 6 picks.

PT: OK, since I'm a pianist first and a singer second, I'm picking a couple of solely instrumentals first....

6. Carol of the Bells-George Winston http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWWVQ3gWw_w&feature=related

PT: George Winston was a major influence in my learning to play piano by ear by the simple fact that when I was younger, he didn't publish any of his music for sight reading! I literally had to play a few seconds on a cassette tape, attempt to copy it, wind it back and try again...and again until I got it. This is one of his best covers. Beautifully played and elegantly arranged. This one's a classic, my friends.

FT: This is really a great song, depressing a bit, but I still like it. The opening part of it reminds me to the opening to the saw theme music ever so slightly.

PT: Right...SAW....hmmmmm...moving on.....

5. O Tennenbaum-Vince Guaraldi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPvsLIlroyY

PT: You might remember this one from the Charlie Brown Christmas where it debuted. This was many peoples' first introduction to Jazz and it's a great one. Vince is one of the great Jazz pianists of the 20th Century.

FT: Simple, but elegant, that is how you make good music(not that I would know). You know I have heard both of these last 2 as elevator music before.

PT: Lucky elevators, my friend LOL! Next up, I choose...

4. Santa Claus is coming to town-The Fab 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ngw86yNuVg

PT: This one is brilliantly clever. It's a mash up of When I'm 64 by the Beatles and Santa Claus is coming to town. I heard it and went "WHOA!"(best Keannu Reeves voice)

FT: There is no doubt that this is a classic, I DARE you to hate this song. lol. Yes this is one of my favorite Christmas songs and The Fab 4's take on it is wonderful to listen to.

PT: Yep! Next up, I’m picking a rollicking version of a classic...

3. Jingle Bells-Brian Setzer Orchestra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnBsI0vRzco

PT: Brian Setzer ROCKS HARD! and the big band is one of the best of the modern swing bands.

FT: I have to say that if it weren't for the Joker this would have made my list, I LOVE it so much!!!

PT: Now for a shout out to the muppets....

2. Have yourself a merry little christmas-John Denver and Rowlf the muppet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZSVfxk8ouM

PT: C'mon! you can never go wrong with the muppets, and this simple duet with John and Rowlf and the piano as the only accompaniment are just about as perfect as a standard can get.

FT: This is a pleasant song to listen to. It just makes you feel all fuzzy inside.

PT: It sure does, my friend. Last, but not least, I’ve gotta give it to the Chairman of the Board....

1. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow-Frank Sinatra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-b3iU-INDo

PT: Take some notes, Buble...this is how it's done, my friend.

FT: Yeah...my choice came down to Sinatra vs Buble for this song, and in the end Buble won out(very narrowly mind you)

PT: It’s alright, I still like you LOL!

FT: I'm very glad.

FT: Well Positive it looks like we are done here, good day to you sir!

PT: Thanks for having me on your blog, my friend, and Thanks to TGWTG fans for giving us some of your time this Holiday Season, as well. Peace.

FT: Thank you as well, and  a very merry Christmas to you all!!!

Animation Review-The Secret of Kells

CURSE YOU THATGUYWITHTHEGLASSES.COM!!! YOUR ACTUALLY FORCING ME TO POST ON BLOGSPOT!!! UGH!
Remember back in 2009? Of course you don't.  2009 was a weak year for most anything. Or was it? Did one medium manage to give us multiple glories such as The princess and the frog, up, Coraline, or even 9? Yes it would seem that the animation industry had it's share of successes that year, but when you were googling  the nominations, you happened to come across an oddity in the category for best animated feature, meaning that there was absolutely no promotion for it in the U.S.(If your not in the U.S,Please do tell us about it's promotion from wherever your from), No one knew what it was, and were therefor confused that an unknown film could have possibly been nominated. How did I learn of the movies existence? Well, CR made a top 10 Irish Characters list with my personal favorite character from the movie at the top. Funny thing is at the time of shooting the video, CR was going off trailers alone to know this was his favorite character, just a little bit creepy if you ask me. Well it turns out that the film was made in Ireland.(quick shout out to Ireland, as I am 49% Irish and just love you guys).
altP.S. CR is also Irish(GO CR!!!)

And since Ireland hasn't exactly been prominent in the film industry, people were surprised. Now, I'm sure your wondering what astonishingly under promoted masterpiece I am speaking of(assuming your dumbass enough to not have read the title before clicking on random links). That film is The Secret Of Kells.
                                                 alt

Now for this review, I will start with the plot I suppose. Fore warning, I am not going into any of the real world historical/religious things in this review.

Plot: The film is set in Seventh century Ireland in a village known as the Abbey of Kells. The Abbot has made the outside world out to be dangerous(which, in retrospect of the movie, it totally is), and has forbidden Brendan( our young protagonist) from exiting the village.  When a Famed illuminator(the guys who draw the pretty pictures in ancient books) Comes to the village, he takes Brendan under his wing to complete the famed book of Iona. To do this. That's all your getting about plot as I REALLY don't want to spoil any of the movie for you.

Now to characters, I guess...
Characters:
Brendan voiced by Evan McGuire
alt
I REALLY love the guy they got to voice this kid, to my knowledge, HE'S ACTUALLY IRISH. I just love the authenticity, and as for his character, I can safely say I fully enjoyed seeing him onscreen. He just captured the childlike nature of curiosity, well still managing to be likable enough to turn off our Douche meters and enjoy him. I give this kid a full 10 out of 10 for pure likability.
Brother Aidan voiced by Mick Lally
alt
To fully capture this character, I will compare him to Dumbledore in his optimistic and guidance personality, while still being aware of the horrors the world has to offer. Such as pointing out to Abbot that here is no chance a wall would hold back vikings. His interaction with Brendan is almost on a father son lever. One of My favorite line for this character is
Brendan: "You know you can't learn everything from books"
Aidan: "hm...Yes, I think Ive read that somewhere" He totally says this as a joke, he is not a naive character.
10 out of 10, easily.
Abbot Cellach voiced by Brendan Gleeson(Mad Eye Moody from Harry Potter)
alt
The uncle of Brendan, wait, Brendan is Brendan's uncle? Not a very creative family, lol. This character is absolutely obsessed with protecting his people and Brendan from enemies of the outside world, going so far as to lock Brendan up just to stop him from going outside. In the end he manages to be a good caretaker to Brendan if extremely under appreciative of the boys talents and interests. In a sense he played an antagonistic role in the movie by holding Brendan back as best as he could.

9 out of 10
And now, THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!!!

Aisling voiced by Christen Mooney
alt
THIS voice work is FRIGGIN AMAZING!!! This kid NEEDS to act MORE!!! Anyway...Aisling, a fairy who's family has been killed by a demonic being, now rules the forest and is displeased when a young Brendan comes in, thinking him an enemy. Over time however, they grew a true friendship that causes what has to be one of the scariest images in animation history, it will make sense if you watch the movie.
alt
HOLY JESUS!!!! MOMMY! SAVE ME!!! It's also just wonderful seeing all of the mystical motions to her, and makes for some truly astounding visuals. Also, ONE OF THE MOST UNDERUSED CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME!!!

This character, hm. 15, maybe 16 out of 10?
Artistic presentation: I can't fairly rate this as I CAN GET NO CLEAR ANSWER AS TO WHAT TYPE OF ANIMATION THIS IS!!! And as such I have nothing to compare it to.

The villain: The vikings, though there is another enemy in the movie, he isn't in the movie long enough, nor is he as scary, as our real villain.
alt
These are very basic enemies, and serve only as a visual effect of fear and power, as they have no lines, but there actions of evil, such as ransacking Aidan's previous monastery, more then make up for it.

Final verdict: If you couldn't tell, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! 10 out of 10! Must see! Die if you don't!!!! ENJOY
Goodby my friends, and I'll see you next time.

GO! WATCH THE MOVIE!!!!
